textile sculpture

hand-knit object commissioned to pay tribute to belgian painter james ensor. the collar refers to the social frustration often expressed in his paintings. while the face tries to conform by wearing a white collar, associated with “the establishment”, our inner self needs to be protected by a shield, a “carapace”, to counterbalance this unavoidable hypocrisy.
